Application
| Within the locomotive sector, Glycol is used as a method of cooling the locomotive engines and prevent them overheating, however, the Glycol often causes fouling, blockages and damage to the engine and therefore needs to be removed.
This is achieved via a Glycol Recovery Rig which the customer already had on site, with flow rates of 10m/3/hr. However, increased volumes of suspended solids from the glycol was causing persistent problems with the performance of the glycol recovery rig and resulting in failings. In addition to these system failings, high volumes of glycol were flushed away on a regular basis and wasted leading to excessive amounts of money spent on costly disposal charges. Required filtration to remove the suspended solids was 2 micron. |
Solution
| 2x IWF Bag Filter Housing in Stainless Steel were added to the existing Glycol Recovery Rig, connected in a series.
The first Bag Filter Housing unit filtering to 10 micron and the 2nd to 2 micron – splitting the load of the filtration required to achieve desired results. This solution enabled all the suspended solids to be separated and removed, allowing the glycol to be reused time and time again, extending the life cycle of the glycol as the cooling agent. Not only has this reduced spend on Glycol, it has also reduced waste disposal costs, as significantly less waste is now produced. The IWF Bag Filter Housings have:
