Application
After experiencing considerable growth over the last few years, a London based food manufacturer was faced flagged up by the water authority due to the increased levels of discharge being sent to drain.
As a responsible manufacturer with corporate social responsibilities to maintain, we were contacted to provide a solution enabling them to operate within their effluent discharge limits.
The suspended solids within the effluent consisted mainly of food debris which would require an external tanker to remove the waste and discharge it offsite, increasing costs significantly.
The filtration solution would require an automated solution to remove the solids from the water with a method of retaining the solids for onsite removal – providing a much cheaper alternative.
Solution
| IWF proposed a Rotary Drum Filter which was installed onto the effluent drain line, filtering down to 1000micron to provide flow rates up to 30,3/hr.
The Drum filter collected the suspended solids and removed them from the water going to drain and discharged them into a large bag. When filled, the bag is discharged within the normal food refuse collection, rather than being put down the drain, as done previously. A much cleaner, cheaper and socially responsible option.
