Application

When manufacturing polystyrene packaging products, temperature-controlled water is used to ensure the moulding equipment is kept to a maintained temperature to ensure product quality.

The system did not have any filtration installed. As a result, a high level of suspended solids were fouling up the mould tooling and cooling tower packing resulting in: –

• Reduced efficiency of the cooling system.
• Blockages in the mould tooling requiring increased maintenance
• Fouling of cooling tower packing requiring increased maintenance/cleaning.
• Increased water usage as the system needed to drained down and cleaned with increasing regularity.

Solution

The IWF Velocitek OVF 300 was installed as a side stream filter to remove the solids build up from the cooling water.

In a matter of days, clean water was restored and running through the system which had an immediate impact on production.
